What does serial0 mean?
Serial communication is the process of sending data sequentially over a computer bus, which means the data will be transmitted bit by bit. Serial communication is used for long data transmission due to lower cost and practical reasons. Serial communication is used much less these days, but it still shows up quite often.
Serial 0 is a nod to a dependable stable infrastructure. One building block of a complicated construct of millions of abstractions. It is a symbol of my beginning in the IT Infrastructure/Security space. It is a legacy born of diligence, detail, and function.
Cisco’s very first integration of a serial bus was deployed to their router the “Advanced Gateway Server”. The AGS came with ethernet and serial interfaces ranging from 0-7. To configure the interface parameters, you must type in the interface you need to configure. i.e. R1(config)#interface serial0
Serial0 is an iconic component and a configuration mainstay that has existed in Cisco’s Internet Operating System (IOS) since their first commercial release (when it was called GS Software). This is the type of legacy that speaks to technologists and leaders. Serial0 speaks to the prevalence of technology and the need for expertise in this field. It speaks to my solid experience and what I can bring to every engagement/practice.
